Newcastle have been boosted in their attempts to keep hold of Fabricio Collocini after San Lorenzo pulled out of their bid to sign him.
The Newcastle captain is keen to return home to Argentina for family reasons, and St James’ Park officials have been in talks with Coloccini’s representatives this week after the defender stated his desire to return to the club where his father, Osvaldo, is currently a youth coach.
However, San Lorenzo have announced that their move for the 31-year-old is over.
The Argentinian club tweeted: “Finally, after long negotiations, we announce that Fabricio Coloccini will not join the roster of San Lorenzo.
